Comparative Assessment of the Application of Four Water Quality Indices (WQIs) in Three Ephemeral Rivers in Greece

In this work, the possibility of using four water quality indices (WQIs) to evaluate status small rivers in Mediterranean region (Northern Greece) was investigated. The WQIs selected were NSF WQI, Oregon CCME WQI and Prati’s Index Pollution applied three rivers, namely Laspias, Kosynthos Lissos, located prefectures Xanthi Rhodope, Northern Greece. individual calculated based on values 11 physicochemical parameters derived from field measurements chemical laboratory analyses samples at two monitoring stations each river. situ samplings executed a frequency approximately 10 days lasted 20, 12 months for respectively. comparative results showed that which had comparable parameters, classified these bodies into highest classes, slightly lower class lowest classes ranking. Regarding Laspias River, whose parameter indicated inferior than other index ranked body class, while higher classes. conclusion, regarding ephemeral streams Mediterranean, it seems is stricter followed by NSF, then, WQIs.
